Old is gold. In an age that is tumbling at hyper speed towards an uncertain future, oftentimes we find that all aspects of life have been taken over by this need for unquestioned velocity. As automation and commercialisation continue to be imposed, we appreciate those that still guard the flame of artisanal creation, as difficult as it may be. Designers who understand that which takes time to make are often the best quality, and the objects that are crafted in the inspiration of the small, simple moments of life often have the most character. This is why we are proud to present a brand truly taking on these values, Dopple and Scent.<\/p>

Founded in 2024 by alumni of the renowned artisanal brand Ichi Antiquit\u00e9s, Jumpei and Yuki set out to continue this line of creation. Their eye for design goes across divides of generations and of Eastern and Western cultures. Americana and vintage-inspired pieces are done in Japanese fabric styles like\u00a0Banshu-ori, a vibrant textile of individually dyed yarns whose tradition goes back hundreds of years in the Banshu region, all created with charm the old-fashioned way.<\/p>

We are proud to be the first European retailer to carry Dopple and Scent. To mark the occasion of the inaugural delivery at RENDEZ-VOUS, we sent some quick-fire questions to the creators to introduce our community to their world.<\/p>

What is the story behind the name Dopple and Scent?<\/strong><\/h4>

\u201cDopple\u201d is inspired by the words Dream, Hope, and Apple.<\/em><\/p>

Apple, as a symbol of beginnings, carries a sense of quiet potential.<\/em><\/p>

We hope that the thoughts and small hopes embedded in each garment will gently grow within everyday life.<\/em><\/p>

\u201cAnd Scent\u201d refers not only to fragrance, but also to something intangible \u2014 like a trace, or a memory. It represents a feeling that lingers and deepens over time.<\/em><\/p>

Describe your design philosophy.<\/strong><\/h4>

We do not see a garment as something complete at the moment it is finished. We value how it continues to evolve through wear, gradually becoming part of the person who wears it. For us, design is about considering this ongoing process from the very beginning.<\/em><\/p>

Tell us the story of how you launched the brand.<\/strong><\/h4>

Dopple & Scent began with a desire to create clothing that learns from the past while reflecting a contemporary sensibility. We are drawn to things that carry a sense of time within them, as well as to the balance of what feels right to wear today. Our work exists somewhere in between. Using Japanese materials such as Banshu-ori, along with fabrics that evolve with wear, we create pieces that naturally settle into everyday life.<\/em><\/p>

This collection is inspired by how color and materials evolve over time. Like indigo, which changes with light and wear, we are drawn to materials that continue to transform. We consider not only the finished product, but also how each piece becomes richer through use.<\/em><\/p>

Where does the design process start for a collection?\u00a0<\/strong><\/h4>

Our process begins with a close engagement with materials. Working with fabrics such as Banshu-ori and others that evolve over time, we observe their texture and how they hold air, gradually shaping the garment from there. Rather than adding design, it is closer to revealing what is already inherent in the material.<\/em><\/p>

What were your personal favorite pieces from this latest collection and why? <\/strong><\/h4>

In this collection, we are drawn to pieces that gradually settle into the wearer over time.<\/em><\/p>

The Vintage Lace Blouse balances delicate lace with everyday ease.<\/em><\/p>

The chambray work shirt evolves in character through wear and washing.<\/em><\/p>

The Raffy Cotton Ease T offers softness and comfort that makes it easy to reach for daily.<\/em><\/p>

Each piece holds an appeal in how it deepens over time.<\/em><\/p>

We are most interested in everyday life itself \u2014 including food, clothing, and living.<\/em><\/p>

By observing the comfort and subtle discomfort within daily routines, we connect those impressions back into our clothing.<\/em><\/p>

What other cultural aspects inform your creative process?\u00a0<\/strong><\/h4>

We are influenced by the depth of time found in vintage and second-hand clothing, by Japanese textiles such as Banshu-ori, and by the practicality of workwear. Though each comes from a different context, we bring them together through the shared element of time.<\/em><\/p>
